How To Enable 2025 Hottest Spotify New Feature ‘Spotify Lossless’
September 10, 2025 — After years of anticipation, Spotify has finally rolled out its long-promised lossless audio feature. Branded simply as Spotify Lossless, the upgrade delivers higher-than-CD-quality streaming to Premium subscribers at no extra cost.
What is Spotify Lossless?
Spotify Lossless lets Premium users stream music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, compared to standard CD quality at 16-bit/44.1 kHz. This means listeners get richer detail, greater depth, and sound closer to the original recording—without the compression that typically trims audio quality.
Global Availability
The rollout began on September 10, 2025, and is expanding to over 50 markets by October. Countries already seeing the feature include:
- Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK.
Subscribers will be notified in the app once the feature is active for them.
Pricing: Free for Premium Subscribers
Contrary to rumors of a “Supremium” or “Music Pro” tier, Spotify Lossless comes at no additional cost. It’s bundled directly into the existing Premium plan, undercutting early speculation of a $5–$6 monthly surcharge.
How to Enable Lossless on Spotify
Once available in your region, you’ll need to enable it manually:
- Tap your profile icon in the top-left of the app.
- Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
- Select Lossless for Wi-Fi, cellular, and/or downloads.
A Lossless indicator will appear in the Now Playing screen when it’s active.

Device Compatibility and Partners
Lossless streaming is supported on mobile, desktop, tablet, and Spotify Connect-enabled devices.
Launch partners include Sony, Bose, Samsung, Sennheiser, Denon, Marantz, Bluesound, and Yamaha. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will arrive in October 2025.
Important note: Bluetooth connections cannot deliver true lossless audio due to bandwidth limits. For the full experience, users should stick to wired headphones/speakers or Spotify Connect.
Data Usage and Performance
Because lossless files are larger, data consumption is significantly higher. Spotify provides in-app estimates for each quality setting so users can manage usage. Playback may take slightly longer to buffer, but once cached, streaming should run smoothly.
Coverage Across Spotify’s Library
Lossless audio is available for nearly all of Spotify’s 100 million tracks, though a small fraction may still be unavailable in the upgraded format.
Why the Delay?
Spotify first teased “HiFi” streaming in February 2021, but licensing negotiations and competitive pressure—particularly after Apple Music and Amazon Music began offering lossless at no extra cost—delayed the launch by more than four years.
How Does Spotify Compare to Competitors?
- Spotify: Up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC (lossless).
- Apple Music & Amazon Music: Lossless included, with 24-bit/192 kHz support.
- Tidal & Qobuz: Offer Hi-Res FLAC up to 192 kHz.
While Spotify’s ceiling is lower, most listeners won’t hear a major difference beyond CD quality unless they’re using high-end, wired audio gear.
Bottom Line
Spotify Lossless is a major upgrade for Premium subscribers, finally putting the platform on par with rivals in the high-fidelity streaming race. With no price hike and broad device compatibility, the launch is likely to satisfy both audiophiles and everyday listeners—so long as they ditch Bluetooth and go wired.
